OTOBO "Inside Machines" [CS] SAD090

OTOBO exists currently as a three-piece rock band from Albany, NY. Founded by songwriters Josh Thorsey and Justin Holden in 2021, OTOBO was initially a nameless source to explore a new creative collaboration. The first collection of songs took shape as an ambient folk record, loose in structure and recorded primarily outside in Kinderhook, NY, sampling the wind, birds, motorcycles, planes, wolves, and oil drums. 2023’s Disco Rally sees the addition of drummer Brandon Rutski, a record that feels more grounded and grooving, though wildly adventurous in genre and style. Through these experiments and further attempts to find an intentional path forward, OTOBO found their new album Inside Machines, a stylistically hyper-focused rock album. Inside Machines reflects the boiling point humans currently find themselves in, the multi-faceted relationship between people, technology, power, control, and an uncertain future. Inside Machines is in your face, but simultaneously meets you where you are. Though the songs reflect ongoing atrocities that are now on full display, they ask you not to forget your community, your relationship with nature, and your humanity.
